NAWOU Handmade is a social enterprise through which economic empowerment opportunities are extended to groups of women artisans. This initiative specifically aims at amplifying the women’s entrepreneurial skills and potential to fashion artistic handmade products such as baskets, place mats, and wall hangings that portray Uganda’s cultural heritage. The women products a have intricate designs that the women usually take hours to craft and weave by hand. It promotes product design, production and marketing, as well as capacity building while instituting opportunities for economically disadvantaged women. Through our membership with World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), NAWOU serves as a market link for the crafts locally, regionally and internationally. The exports are distributed as widely as New Zealand, United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, among others. A well-equipped outlet located at the Uganda Museum, one of the tourist centers in the country caters to the local market. Other bulk purchases can be found at the NAWOU offices in Old Kampala.
