Monica Emiru: Executive Director

Monica is a Program Development and Management Expert with strong leadership, networking and partnership building and nurturing skills. She has hands on experience in gender and gender mainstreaming, social inclusion and socio-economic justice. She has worked in various capacities including social policy analysis, legislation development, reviews and reforms and advocacy for children, women and other disadvantaged groups.  She has expertise in application of participatory methodologies for and development programming with a niche on the participation of women, children and young people to influence their decision making at micro and macro levels.  In addition, Monica has extensive background and passion in catalyzing women to work in collectives for social, economic development, leadership and good governance.

She is a dependable team leader and team player.  Prior to joinging NAWOU, Monica worked in conflict and post conflict settings including northern Uganda during the civil unrest and South Sudan from before it attained independence. She holds a Master’s of Art in Development Studies majoring in Population and Development from the Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, the Netherlands, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Social Sciences of Makerere University in Kampala.

 

Susan Asio: Programme Manager-Economic Empowerment

Susan is a women’s rights activist who has passionately advocated for marginalized women and girls to enjoy and access equal opportunities in life. She has done this for the past 8 years, after acquiring her Post-Graduate Diploma in Gender Equality Studies from the University of Iceland and a Bachelors’ Degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Uganda Christian University.

Susan currently works as Program Manager at National Association for Women’s Organizations in Uganda (NAWOU), the Umbrella for all women organizations in Uganda and a champion for women’s social, political and economic justice. Over the years, she had worked as Head of Department – Gender and Economic Policy at Action for Development (ACFODE), a reputable women’s organization that provides an effective platform of debate and action on issues related to women’s empowerment in Uganda. She also served as Programme Officer with Isis-Women’s International Cross Cultural Exchange, an internationally recognized women’s rights organization that exists to strengthen capacities, potential and visibility of women in conflict and post-conflict countries globally.

She is currently volunteering as Uganda’s Ambassador to UN Women Singapore through Project Inspire. Susan has gained expertise in project planning and management, advocacy and an extensive background in promoting justice and empowerment of women, through documentation and facilitation of information and skills exchange. She is committed to the promotion of rights of all, good governance, peace and conflict resolution, as criterion for sustainable peace and development. She has engaged and effectively participated in building the competencies of women leaders from diverse backgrounds, to take lead in conflict transformation and peace building. Her activism has exposed her to diverse knowledge on the realities of women and children in various conflict and post-conflict situations.

 

Susan ToolitAlobo: Programme Manager-Peace & Security

Ms. Susan ToolitAlobo is a Development, Humanitarian and Peace Building Specialist, with 11 years of work experience in the field of Education, development and social programming with International Non-Governmental Organization and National Non-Governmental Organization, handling Education, Socio- Economic empowerment, child and social protection, Community governance, Relief and Reconstruction, Mine Action, Management, Conflict Resolution & Peace building, and children/youth rehabilitation.

She has extensive exposure and experience working with multi-cultural teams in both stable and insecure environments. She uses integrated Right Base Approach to development and takes gender, child and human Rights concerns as a key development issue without which there will be no equity and equality in development. Susan is a team player but with ability to work independently. She has got skills in project and human resource management a great reputation in managing donor relations.

Before joining NAWOU as Programme Officer Peace and Security, She worked as a Programme Manager at Acholi Education Initiative. Field Relief Coordinator at World Vision, Mine Risk Education Officer and Mine Action Coordinator with Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR) respectively, Center Manager at Christian Counseling Fellowship (CCF) and a School Teacher at Kabalega Senior Secondary

Toolit holds a Master Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management Uganda management Institute. She attained a BA with Education from Makerere University. Currently Ms.Alobo is pursuing a second Masters Degree in Peace and Conflict Transformation from Gulu University. She has attended additional professional training in thematic areas such as; Advocacy and Policy Influencing from INTRAC United Kingdom,as well as Grant’s Management and Fundraising from MSD Training Center in Arusha, Tanzania. She has added skills in IT, Research and is a member of Uganda Red Cross society.

 

 

Allen KoosaTumushabe: Accountant

Allen is an Associate Member of the Certified Public Accountants in Uganda. She is an accountant with 8 years experience in finance and administrative roles for both private and public entities.  At the moment, she is in charge of the Finance and Administrative functions of NAWOU providing technical backstopping support for all programmes in the country.

Before joining NAWOU, Allen set up and implemented finance and administrative frameworks for Plan International’s country office and was later transferred to the Luwero programme area. Allen has also supported the Makerere University Finance department in various roles including internal systems controls, budgeting and budgetary control, institutional capacity development for non finance and administrative staff as well as reporting and orientation on accounting principles.

She has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Commerce, specializing in Accounting from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda.
