Combating Gender Based Violence against Women & girls

The project takes on the combat approach where community resource persons are used as linkages and reference points support women, girls, men and boys with the skills they need to address gender based violence in their communities. The project targets women and girls as direct beneficiaries, and local leaders (religious and cultural), men and boys, and service providers such as community service officers, medical personnel and police as indirect beneficiaries.

The VAWG project will be implemented in a period of 4 years from 2015 to 2018 and aims to reduce violence against women and girls in Apac and Mubende districts through sustainable community based response systems.

Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) is funded by Womankind.

The project aims to achieve the following specific objectives:

  • Community based action teams to prevent and eliminate VAWG are created and strengthened.
  • Women and girls have increased access to appropriate legal, medical and counseling services and strengthened means of economic independence.
  • The community is better able to participate in actions to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls.
